Metta World Peace Donates Over $100k To Queens Charities
September 22nd, 2011 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Basketball,Charity | No CommentsBack when Ron Artest, now Metta World Peace, raffled off his 2010 championship ring, he donated most of the money to raising awareness about mental health issues. Some money was left over however, and he just recently decided to give back to another cause close to his heart: charities based in his hometown of Queens.
World Peace gave $65,000 to Steinway Child and Family Services, a Long Island City-based organization that provides many programs to residents from mental health services to HIV/AIDS services. He also donated $55,000 to the Child Center of New York, a Queens-based which helps at-risk youth.
He told the NY Daily News, “When I was 13, our house burned down and my mom and dad separated, and from then on I was really agitated and started getting in a lot of trouble. My mom told me I had to see a counselor. He helped me a lot. Without him I don’t know where I’d be.”
A ceremony was held in downtown Los Angeles to mark the donations.

Metta World Peace First To Go On DWTS
September 21st, 2011 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Basketball,TV | No Comments
Metta World Peace was the first celebrity to get eliminated from Dancing with the Stars last night. He and his dance partner, Peta Murgatroyd only got one chance to show their dance skills. To see the video of them dancing the Cha Cha, check it out here.
World Peace received the lowest votes from the judges, and he didn’t receive enough votes from the Laker Nation to save him. World Peace is donating the money he did make from his appearance on the show to cancer research. It’s too bad he didn’t make it past the first round of eliminations, but at least he did gain a new nickname from the judges: “Danceatron.”
Murgatroyd and World Peace appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live after their elimination. Check out the videos below:

By the way, when the NBA season does start back up, Metta’s opponents are going to have a lot of ammunition for trash talk!
Soccer star Hope Solo was given the third highest score of 21 points. Her and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy danced the Viennese Waltz to a rendition of Dave Matthews Band Satellite. Check out their performance below:

September 16th, 2011 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Basketball | No CommentsLos Angeles Laker forward and current Dancing with the Stars contestant is no longer Ron Artest. The name change became official today and he will know be known as Metta World Peace. After clearing up some outstanding parking tickets, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge commissioner approved the basketball players name change request.
Metta’s publicist released the following explanation for the name:
“Metta is his official first name; which in the Buddhist tradition means loving-kindness and friendliness toward others and his last name is World Peace. It took many years of research and soul searching to find a first name that was both personally meaningful and inspirational.”
