Pro Surfer Andy Irons’ Death Possibly Due To Overdose

November 4th, 2010 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Surfing

Pro surfer Andy Irons was found dead in his hotel room at the Dallas/Forth Worth airport on Tuesday. Irons was on his way home from Puerto Rico, where he pulled out of a surf contest there. Original reports cited his family’s claim that Irons was suffering from dengue fever and may have died as a result of complications from the viral illness. There were later claims that methadone was found in his hotel room, and that he may have died due to an overdose of the powerful pain reliever.  However, the latest reports to come in, in the form of police reports obtained by TMZ show that other pills were in Irons’ hotel room. The generic form of Xanax, as well as the generic form of Ambien where found on the tables near his bed. Methadone was not noted on the police report. Toxicology reports will take several weeks, but will eventually tell the truth of how Irons died.

This is such a tragic story. Irons was married and his wife was seven months pregnant with their first child.
