Freestyle Skier In Coma After Training Accident
January 11th, 2012 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Olympics
Freestyle skier Sarah Burke was airlifted from the mountains in Park City, Utah to a Salt Lake City hospital yesterday where she remains in a coma. Burke crashed during a training run on the superpipe.
Burke has eight Winter X Game medals under her belt and was scheduled to defend her title later this month at the Winter X Games in Aspen.
The nature of the 29-year-olds injuries have not been disclosed. Burke is seen as the pioneer of the freestyle halfpipe sport, which she lobbied to have included in the Olympics. The sport will see its debut in the 2014 Olympics.
We wish her a speedy recovery!
