Klitschko Brothers And Stallone Producing Rocky: The Musical

Sylvester Stallone joined boxing’s Klitschko brothers at a press conference to announce the trio would be producing a musical based on the original Rocky movie from 1976.

“Rocky: The Musical” is set to open in Hamburg, Germany in November 2012. The Klitschko brothers will train the performers, and original songs like “Eye of the Tiger” will be incorporated into the musical. Stallone said he wants the plot of the musical to focus on the love story between Rocky and Adrian.

There hasn’t been any word on whether or not the musical will make its way to the States.

Magic Johnson And Larry Bird Play Headed To Broadway

A Broadway play based on the rivalry and friendship between Magic Johnson and Larry Bird is currently in the works. Producers Fran Kirmser and Tony Ponturo, who were behind last year’s Lombardi show on Broadway, are currently casting for the lead roles. According to playbill.com, a casting notice says “taller is good.”

Other characters being cast for the show include Red Auerbach, an NBA player for the Lakers, Larry’s mother Georgia Bird, and Magic’s agent. Magic/Bird will be produced in association with the NBA and will feature old NBA film footage.

The play is scheduled to open on Broadway on March 21, with a first preview on Feb. 27.

Athlete Sighting: Magic Johnson

Basketball legend and business man, Magic Johnson and his wife, Cookie were in New York City last night for the premiere of the Broadway play, “The Mountaintop” at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.

Other celebrities in attendance for opening night include Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz, Phylicia Rashad, Debbie Allen, Harry Belafonte, Star Jones, and Gayle King.

Athlete Sighting: Serena Williams

Tennis champion Serena Williams was spotted in New York City on Thursday night at the St. James Theatre watching a performance of American Idiot, the Broadway musical.

Serena is a HUGE fan of Green Day and got an extra special treat last night… Green Day’s lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong joined the cast for this week.

Billie co-authored the musical and is filling in for stage performer Tony Vincent who plays the role of St. Jimmy.

Vince Lombardi Broadway Show

A new Broadway show will be opening on Sept. 23rd at the Circle in the Square Theatre in New York City about the life of legendary Green Bay Packer’s coach Vince Lombardi.

Based on the best-selling biography When Pride Still Mattered: A Life of Vince Lombardi, by Pulitzer Prize-winning author David Maraniss. This original piece of work chronicles the life and times of  Hall of Fame football coach.
