Terrell Owens Copies Ochocinco With New iPhone App
August 4th, 2010 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Football,Technology | No CommentsTerrell Owens has followed in his buddy Ochocino’s footsteps once again, this time releasing an iPhone app. Available August 8th, the application will be very similar to Ochocinoco’s with many of the same features including news, his schedule, stats, photos, and an “Ask TO” option. And in case you forget how to tie your tie, there’s a feature for that, too. Rock Software, who worked with the Bengals players on their apps, is designing apps for a few other notable athletes including Mike Tyson and Carmelo Anthony.

July 23rd, 2010 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Food,Football,Technology | No CommentsDoritos sponsored voting for who fans wanted to see on the cover of EA Sports’ Madden NFL 11 video game earlier this year. Now, with the release of the video game nearing, Doritos has released two new limited-edition flavors: Stadium Nacho and Tailgater BBQ. Using the brand’s FlavorPlus technology, which replicates how flavors are released when eaten, they were able to pack in flavors and smells that they hoped would remind fans of game day. Drew Brees was selected to appear on the cover of the game set to be released in August.

Ochocinco: First Athlete To Get His Own iPad App
July 7th, 2010 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Football,Technology | No CommentsWho else besides Ochocinco would pioneer iPad apps for athletes? He’s on Twitter constantly, has his own iPhone app with hundreds of thousands of downloads, and even has his own reality dating show set to air on VH1 this month. The app will feature a music player, videos of Ochocinco, promotion for his dating show, YouTube videos hand-picked by Chad himself, and a way to ask questions of the football player.
The app was created by Rock Software, which is partly owned by Bengals QB Jordan Palmer. No wonder he’s at the forefront of technology and social networking, it looks like he has a connection and the desire to be in the spotlight. While his iPhone app is mostly football related, his iPad app is supposed to have something for everyone.

Check Out The New GameChanger App
April 16th, 2010 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Baseball,Technology | 1 CommentFungo Media, Inc. has created a new iPhone app that is going to change youth sports.
The new app allows parents to follow their kids on the diamond.
Here’s how it works. A scorekeeper at the game keeps track of every pitch and play on a free iPhone app. Parents can immediately log onto the GameChanger Web site to see live updates of the game.
“Most apps out there right now are being used as data consumption devices,” said Ted Sullivan, founder of Fungo Media. “Ours, as of now, is a data collection device.”
Since launching in January, Sullivan said he has signed up thousands of teams. Viewing in-game box scores are now free, but Sullivan’s business model calls for parents who want more in-depth stats to eventually pay $8 to $12 a month for the service. The live game play-by-play will eventually be housed as an app itself instead of on the Web site, he said.
“If you are stuck on Wall Street and you can’t get to your kid’s game, it’s like a savior,” Sullivan said. “It doesn’t replace being at the game of course, but it’s nice when you can get a text alert to your phone saying your kid is standing on second base, having just hit a double.”
So far the application is available for baseball and softball, but the company plans to develop apps for additional sports. For more information, click here.
NBA and NHL Release iPad Apps
April 5th, 2010 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Basketball,Hockey,Technology | No Comments
The NBA and NHL are releasing new iPad apps to coincide with the release of the new Apple product.
The NBA’s new application, NBA Game Time: Courtside, will be a playoff companion and offer real-time game trackers; a bracket-style presentation of the postseason; in-game and postgame video highlights; news, scores and statistics; social-media integration; and a variety of other content. The application will be free as a run-up to the 2010-11 season, when there will be a paid version of the application.
The NHL has created an iPad-optimized version of NHL.com that carries the same array of content as the Web site, which has been steadily rebuilt and expanded since 2006. But the iPad version, developed in-house by the NHL with aid from Apple, will be tailored toward the touch-screen, more-relaxed, lean-back experience endemic to the new device.
