According to SportsBusiness Daily, U.S women’s soccer goalie Hope Solo signed a multi-year endorsement deal with Gatorade. The endorsement is an indicator of her rising popularity.

Richard Motzkin, Solo’s agent of 10 years, said he had been discussing a possible deal with Gatorade before the World Cup began. After the World Cup, however, he said interest in her was “staggering.” He said her Twitter followers increased from 8,000 to over 250,000 in a little over a week’s time.

The Gatorade endorsement is the second major endorsement Solo gained following the World Cup. A few weeks ago, Solo and U.S. soccer teammates Abby Wambach and Alex Morgan signed an endorsement deal with Bank of America.

Details of the Gatorade endorsement, including how she will be used to market the brand, have not yet been disclosed.

When Real Madrid came out to Los Angeles, UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez came out to support Cristiano Ronaldo, who he considers “the best player in soccer.”

Both Velasquez and Ronaldo are leaders in their respective sports. While soccer and mixed martial arts are two very different sports, both athletes admire the other’s sport. Ronaldo is a huge MMA and jiu-jistu fan. When they met, they traded gifts. Ronaldo was given a pair of UFC training gloves, and Velasquez received a Cristiano Ronaldo shirt from Real Madrid with a note that read, “To my friend Velasquez, with friendship.”
