Athlete Sighting: Luis Suarez
February 24th, 2012 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Athlete Sighting,Soccer | No CommentsLiverpool FC star Luis Suarez was spotted leaving the posh San Carlo restaurant in Liverpool with his wife yesterday.
Suarez became a controversial player after being banned for eight matches last year due to alleged remarks made against Man U player Patrice Evra deemed racist by the Football Association. Upon returning from the ban, he was handed a yellow card in his first game back for kicking a player on the opposing team. Later, his refusal to shake Evra’s hand following a game made him even more scorned.
The rumor is the Uruguyan will likely be traded this summer for a large sum of money. His impressive stats make him a hot commodity but after the controversy, Liverpool is supposedly eager to trade him off.

LA Galaxy Officially Re-Sign David Beckham
January 20th, 2012 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Soccer | No CommentsWe told you awhile back that David Beckham was rumored to be staying with the LA Galaxy. It has just been officially announced by the team that Beckham will indeed remain in Los Angeles.
Beckham signed a two-year contract that was negotiated by Beckham’s manager, Simon Fuller. Fuller said in a news release, “When David and I discussed making the move from Real Madrid to the LA Galaxy back in 2007, our minds were firmly focused on the massive opportunity of helping to grow soccer in the United States. We have made great progress over the past five years in raising the profile of soccer domestically and the MLS on a worldwide stage, and we are encouraged by all the results.”
Fuller added, “However, clearly this is an ongoing mission and this new deal confirms our commitment to continuing our journey and making sure the world’s biggest sport, soccer, continues to grow in the world’s most passionate sports loving nation, the USA.”

Tim Howard: Hot Or Not?
January 5th, 2012 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Hot or Not,Soccer | No CommentsTim Howard may not have been very impressed with his 90-yard goal, but it surely caught our attention. His shirtless frame has caught our attention before, from ESPN’s Body Issue to a USA Soccer spread in Interview magazine so we thought we’d take a moment to help you get to know more about the man behind the goal.
Howard was born in New Jersey. He currently plays for Everton in the English Premier League but can be found in the goal box playing for the US national team also.
The 6’3″ goalie began his soccer career a month before graduating high school, playing for the North Jersey Imperials. That same year, he made his MLS debut playing for the New York/New Jersey MetroStars. In 2001, he became the youngest player to win the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award.
In the middle of the 2003 season, he was traded to Manchester United where he replaced Fabien Barthez as the first-choice goalie. In 2006, he signed with Everton. More recently, in 2010, Howard was the starting goalkeeper in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. His kick to Landon Donovan who made a game-winning goal led the US team into the round of 16.
Howard hasn’t only stuck to soccer throughout his life. In 2009, he was drafted by the Harlem Globetrotters.
He was awarded the MLS Humanitarian of the Year award in 2001 for his work with children with Tourrette’s syndrome. He was diagnosed with Tourrette’s in middle school.
Howard is taken. He and his wife, Laura, have two children and live in Tennessee during the off-season.
So what do you think ladies? Hot or not?

Watch: Tim Howard Scores 90-Yard Goal
January 5th, 2012 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Soccer | 1 Commentembedded by Embedded Video

American goalkeeper Tim Howard scored a record-breaking 90-yard goal in an English Premier League soccer game last night.
The assistance in making the goal was his first in a professional soccer game. Howard became only the fourth goalkeeper in English Premier League history to score a goal.
The goal was helped along by the wind which seemed to sweep the ball up past the goalie’s hands as it went into the net. Howard expressed disappointment about the help from the wind, telling BBC Radio, “I’m disappointed from a goalkeeper’s standpoint and you never want to see that happen. It’s ugly, not very nice and can be embarrassing.”
The goal didn’t help his team, Everton, beat Bolton. Still, it was a pretty amazing kick to watch.
First Look: David Beckham Modeling New Underwear Line For H&M
January 4th, 2012 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Fashion,Hotties,Soccer | 1 CommentWe told you a little less than a year ago about David Beckham‘s plans to launch his own underwear line. Now, we have new details about that project!
The David Beckham Bodywear line will be debuting in February 2012 at worldwide retailer H&M. Lucky for us, Beckham has opted to model all of his own designs and we found the first photos of the new line.
Beckham told the Telegraph, “The final piece in the jigsaw was a retail partner who has the vision and capability to distribute these products globally. In H&M we have found the perfect partner to collaborate with going forward, I’m excited and looking forward to showcasing the range to H&M customers from February.”
Becks decided to leave out any overt branding on the products to, “‘present a range of new classics, comprising of briefs, boxers, vests, T-shirts, pyjamas and long johns.” H&M has stated this is only the first of many collaborations between the retailer and soccer stud.
Happy Valentine’s Day to us! Here’s more photos from the line:

This is according to the Club’s President, who told media Beckham would be staying with the LA Galaxy. Galaxy owners have said nothing is finalized yet. Tim Lieweke, president of AEG, the company that owns the Galaxy, told ESPN Los Angeles, “… I’m very confident David will be back, but we’re not there yet.”
Beckham’s five-year contract with the Galaxy ended on New Years Eve. He has made a major impact on popularizing the MLS and helped the Galaxy win a title this last season.
