Sports For Your Ears

Check out this new creative spot by ESPN Radio. It’s a quirky piece aiming to show audiences ESPN Audio’s vast array of digital offerings which includes the ESPN Radio App, ESPNRadio.com and downloadable podcasts.

In the spot, an over-sized ear shows how difficult it can be to follow sports. The solution? ESPN Audio. One thing that makes this ESPN feature so great is that it allow fans to listen to locally based shows from around the country, as well as to ESPN Radio’s nationally syndicated content. Being able to listen to the local coverage of your favorite sports teams when you are in another part of the country is awesome!

July 5th, 2011 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Misc | No Comments

Yesterday was the annual Nathan’s International Hot Dog Eating Competition on Cooney Island in New York and Joey Chestnut took home the top crown for the 5th year in a row after eating 62 hot dogs in 10 minutes. Joey was 6 hot dogs shy of his record, in 2009, he ate 68 hot dogs. Joey’s biggest competitor, Takeru Kobayashi was ineligible to compete for the second year in a row and held his own hot dog eating contest on a rooftop in Manhattan. Last year, Kobayashi was arrested after storming the stage after the competition had ended.

Check out the video below to watch Joey scarf down lots of hot dogs. Makes us a little nauseous…

Need To Keep Warm While Doing Outdoor Winter Sports?

January 7th, 2011 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Misc | No Comments

We went skiing in Mammoth last week to celebrate the New Year and we were reminded of what an amazing invention Hand Warmers are! The temperature while we were in Mammoth was hovering between 5 degrees and 20 degrees and we were so thankful to have our Hand Warmers.

Technology has improved in the last four years (that’s how long it has been since our last ski adventure!) and they now make Body Warmers and Toe Warmers! We used the Body Warmer on our lower back and our toes were nice and warm after putting the Toe Warmers in our boots.

With these warmers, our winter skiing experience was so much more pleasant. But they aren’t just for skiing, you can use them in all of your favorite winter activities or just put them in your gloves before you brave the cold! They’ll make running those errands in the snow a little less painful. Now there is no excuse for not hitting the slopes or participating in your favorite winter activity!

We are planning another ski trip to Park City, Utah later this month so we’ll definitely be stocking up on Hand, Foot and Body Warmers!

Chris McCormack’s Wheaties Box Unveiled

December 14th, 2010 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Food,Misc | No Comments

Australia’s Chris McCormack became the first Ironman World Champion to be featured on the cover of a Wheaties box. The boxes featuring the 140.6 mile champion will hit store shelves in March.

“Breakfast is such an important meal of the day for any athlete. Given the long hours I train, I really need a nutrition source with a blend of simple and complex carbohydrates that can help fuel me,” said Chris. “I never miss breakfast, and I include whole grains and B vitamins to provide the long-lasting energy I need to endure a grueling workout, so I can’t think of a bigger honor than being on a Wheaties box and representing the accolades of being an Ironman. I know my kids will get so excited to see my face in the cereal aisle.”

Sports Business Journal’s 50 Most Influential People In Sports Business

December 14th, 2010 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Baseball,Basketball,Football,Golf,Hockey,Misc,Olympics,Soccer,Tennis | No Comments

The Sports Business Journal takes months in gathering their list of the 50 most influential people in sports business. They consider what “influence” means to the sports world, recognizing that influence is not always a positive thing. They said that this year the list was “rooted heavily with an eye on labor and management relations.” They explained their thinking on some of the picks. For example, David Levy, President of sales, distribution, and sports at Turner Broadcasting, moved up on the list because of the deal he made with Sean McManus, president of CBS, for the rights to NCAA basketball. The top 10 most influential people in sports business are as follows:

1. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell
2. President of ESPN/ABC Sports George Bodenheimer
3. NBA Commissioner David Stern
4. MLB Commissioner Bud Selig
5. NFL Player’s Assocation Executive Director DeMaurice Smith
6. Chairman of NBC Universal Sports & Olympics Dick Ebersol
7. President and COO of News Corp. Chase Carey
8. President of CBS News and CBS Sports Sean McManus
9. Founder, Chairman and CEO of the Kraft Group, Robert Kraft
10. Dallas Cowboys Owners Jerry Jones

ESPN Launches Female Focused Website!

December 13th, 2010 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Misc | No Comments

We told you awhile back that we had heard that ESPN was looking to tap into the female sports audience, well, now they have! Last week, ESPN launched their new site, ESPNW.com.

The new site is presented in a blog format, very different from their main ESPN website. The new site has a heavy Facebook and Twitter presence and will incorporate posts by some of the top female sports columnists and bloggers, pro athletes, and expert contributors.

One of our favorite people, Adena Andrews is a contributing writer for the site and she’s already written some awesome pieces. Make sure to check them out!
