Blogger Challenges Jason Kidd To Game of Golf

September 2nd, 2010 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Basketball,Golf | No Comments

Stephanie Wei, who writes for the golf blog Wei Under Par, challenged Dallas Mavericks player Jason Kidd to a game of golf. Wei, of no relation to Michelle Wie, (they’re last names are slightly different) played competitive golf at the junior and college level and remains an avid golfer. The New Yorker recently found herself in Scottsdale, AZ where she challenged Jason Kidd to a game of golf at TPC Scottsdale. (TPC is the Tournament Players Club, and TPC courses are part of the PGA Tour) They both made some friendly wagers. It was decided that the loser must admit defeat via video at the end of the match. And if Jason won, Wei had to start every blog post for a week praising Kidd for being wonderful. And when the Mavericks come to New York to play the Knicks, Wei has to wear a Jason Kidd jersey as a dress. If Stephanie were to win, Jason would have to give a shout-out to her blog during an interview on TV, and he’d have to throw in court-side seats for the Mavericks/Knicks game.

Wei had time to ask Kidd some questions during their game, including what he thought of the Miami threesome. He said, “Man, they’ll be the team to beat, but you know, I just want to beat the Lakers. That’s all.” Very interesting. In the end, Jason Kidd was the victor so we’ve included her admission to defeat video below.

September 2nd, 2010 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Golf,Sports Gifts | 3 Comments

Even though we here at Queen Of Sports LOVE sports, we are still girlie girls and get very excited when we see companies adding a girlie flair to sports stuff. This piece totally falls into that category. Check out the pink golf clubs that Sweet Spot Golf has created. How cute are they?!?!

And what makes it even sweeter is that Sweet Spot donates a portion of the dollars made in the sales of the pink clubs to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Just a nice reminder that sports gear can be pretty! We think this would be a great gift for the girlie golfer in your life… before you know it the holiday season will be here!

Side note for all the men reading this post – they make golf clubs that aren’t pink too!

We’d didn’t even know Kim could golf and judging by this picture, she may not.

Things Looking Up For Tiger

August 26th, 2010 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Couples,Golf | 2 Comments

It’s been a rough nine months for Tiger Woods, his infidelities exposed, he lost sponsorships, his marriage ended and he’s struggled on the golf course after taking time off to handle his personal issues.

But things may be looking up for the golfer because he had a great day on the course at The Barclays today. Tiger currently shares the lead in the tournament after making seven birdies to finish the day with a score of 65, his best round of the year.

“It feels good to be able to control my ball all day like this,” Tiger told reporters.

No doubt that the finalization of his divorce earlier this week has reduced his stress level. Now that he has some closure on some of his personal problems he’ll be able to put his focus back on his golf game.

Other analysts are speculating that this may just be a fluke. What do you think? Is Tiger back? Do you think he’ll continue to play well? Leave your thoughts in the comments section!

Good News For Tiger Woods

August 26th, 2010 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Awards,Golf,Technology | No Comments

The last nine months of Tiger Woods life would not be described as great. His divorce from his Swedish wife was finalized earlier this week and he’s about to enter the worst drought of his career if he doesn’t win at the upcoming Barclays Golf Tournament.

But it’s not all bad news, Tiger’s website was honored by the SportBusiness Group in its annual Ultimate Sports Websites Awards.

The site won four of the seven categories — Multimedia Content, General Content, Monetisation, and Partnership Activation.

“This is a nice honor,” said Tiger. “A lot of people have worked very hard to improve our product, and the recognition is well-deserved. This year-round site was created for my fans, and I’m extremely grateful for their loyalty and support.”

Tiger Takes Questions About Divorce

August 25th, 2010 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Couples,Golf | 1 Comment

Golfer Tiger Woods diverted from his usual “that’s private” comment when he was asked about his divorce during a press conference at The Barclays in Paramus, New Jersey.

Tiger has been famously known for not wanting to discuss his personal life and for the most part, the media let it be until his now infamous car crash that occurred last Thanksgiving.

But on Wednesday afternoon, the golfer talked about the toll the divorce has taken on him. Maybe he has learned that it is better to address the questions rather than trying to keep it a secret, or maybe it was because of this.

Here is the main highlight from the press conference:

“You know, it’s a sad time in our lives. And we’re looking forward to [rebuilding] our lives and how we can help our kids the best way we possibly can. And that’s the most important thing.”

Fresh off the finalization of her divorce from golfer Tiger Woods, Elin Nordegren sat down with PEOPLE Magazine to discuss what she has been through in the last nine months.

“I have been through the stages of disbelief and shock, to anger and ultimately grief over the loss of the family I so badly wanted for my children,” she told PEOPLE in an exclusive interview. “I’m so embarrassed that I never suspected – not a one. For the past 3 1/2 years, when all this was going on, I was home a lot more with pregnancies, then the children and my school.”

Elin, 30 and mother of two has enrolled in school and is pursing a degree in psychology, “I also feel stronger than I ever have. I have confidence in my beliefs, my decisions and myself.”

PEOPLE spent about 19 hours with Elin at her Windmere, Florida home. Elin discussed the emotional roller coaster she has been on and also talked about how life has changed for the couples two children, Sam 3 and Charlie, 19  months.

“My immediate plan is for the kids and me to continue to adjust to our new situation. I am going to keep taking classes, but my main focus is to try to give myself time to heal,” she said.

Tiger released this statement to the magazine: “This is a very painful, personal and private time for our family. Throughout this entire time, Elin has shown unwavering concern and support for our children. She is a wonderful mother. I know that the two of us will do everything we can to help our children adjust to this new family situation.”

One thing is for sure – she looks gorgeous!

According to the magazine this will be Elin’s first and last interview. The magazine hits newsstands on Friday.
