Tim Tebow Gets The Marvel Treatment
January 5th, 2012 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Football | 1 CommentDenver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow has been immortalized by the comic book artists over at Marvel, in a three-piece series of comic book sketches. Called “Tebow Time” the sketches are done by artists Bong Dazo, Scott Koblish, and Todd Nauck. Debuted on SportsCenter, they are a collaboration between Marvel Custom Solutions and ESPN.
“Like the Marvel heroes who pull off last minute victories, Tim Tebow has fans around the world on the edge of their seats and believing that–in our own lives–when time is running out and all looks lost, we can dig deep inside and use our various strengths to triumph over insurmountable odds,” says Bill Rosemann of Marvel Custom Solutions.
Will these sketches lead to actual comic books about Tebow? We wouldn’t be surprised.

The Oregon Ducks defeated the Wisconsin Badgers yesterday, winning the Rose Bowl for the first time in 95 years. The Ducks won 45-38, making the game the highest-scoring Rose Bowl game ever played.
De’Anthony Thomas, an Oregon freshman from Los Angeles shown above holding the Leishman Trophy, had the longest scoring run in Rose Bowl history, going 91 yards in the second quarter.
It wasn’t only the players’ performances that broke records. The temperature at game-time in Pasadena was 82 degrees, which made it the warmest bowl game in Wisconsin history.

Queen Of Sports 101: Tiebreaking In The NFL To Determine Playoff Qualification
January 2nd, 2012 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Football,Sports 101 | No Comments
Around this time last year, we talked about the NFL playoff format. This year, as we head into the Wild Card Round, we will explain the rules regarding tiebreaking to determine what teams will qualify for the playoffs.
In the AFC West, the Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers all ended the regular season with 8 wins and 8 losses. So how was it decided the Broncos will be advancing to the playoffs over the other teams in their division? A list of tiebreaker rules are applied until the tie is broken. Here is the list of what is taken into account for tiebreakers in at the divisional level:
1. The best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs that are tied.
2. The best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
3. The best won-lost-tied percentage in games played against the same opponents.
4. The best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
5. The combined won-lost-tied percentage of all the teams that a club has defeated.
6. The combined won-lost-tied percentage of all the teams that a club has played against.
7. The best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
8. The best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
9. Best net points in games played against the same opponents.
10. Best net points in all games.
11. Best net touchdowns in all games.
12. And finally…if the tie hasn’t broken yet the teams will participate in a coin toss.

Stevie Johnson of the Buffalo Bills knows the NFL’s rules regarding touchdown celebrations, and yet it seems he just can’t help himself from celebrating.
Yesterday, he caught a touchdown before lifting up his jersey to display an undershirt that read “Happy New Year!” The action drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty before Bills coach Chain Gailey decided to bench Johnson for the remainder of the game. The Patriots went on to win 49-21.

From planking to Tebowing to the latest Internet fad: Ortoning. Ryan Parker tells us Ortoning is “looking really sad, Ortoning is when you realize that you are bad, Ortoning is watching someone new, doing something better than you.”
Ortoning is of course in reference to Kyle Orton, who was the quarterback of the Denver Broncos before Tim Tebow became the starting quarterback and Orton was benched before being released in November and claimed by the Kansas City Chiefs.

December 30th, 2011 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Couples,Football | No CommentsPatriots quarterback Tom Brady and his wife Gisele Bundchen and their two-year-old son will be moving into their $2o million Brentwood mansion in the beginning of 2012.
Crews worked for 18 months on the eight-bedroom home which sits on 3.75 acres, making improvements and making it more green by adding a rainwater recovery system and energy-efficient appliances and lighting. The 22,000-square-foot home consists of a nursery, a butler’s room, a wine cellar, a weight room and pool and spa. A six-car garage will store their cars and a bridge inside the house connects the two wings of the home. The Bradys will be neighbors with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Seal and Heidi Klum.

December 27th, 2011 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Football | No Comments
Drew Brees broke the NFL record last night for most yards passed in a season, a record held by NFL legend Dan Marino since 1984.
The record of 5,084 yards was passed when Brees made a 9-yard touchdown pass to Darren Sproles in the New Orleans Saints’ win against the Atlanta Falcons. The crowd inside the stadium went wild with cheers for Brees while he celebrated on the field, hugging teammates and his coach. He gave an emotional speech, thanking his teammates and the New Orleans Saints organization in the locker room following the game.
