Athlete Sighting: Shaun Phillips

San Diego Chargers player Shaun Phillips was spotted having dinner at Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse in San Diego on Wednesday night. Shaun was meeting with staff from After School All Stars, a charity he has supported over the past few years. Most recently. Shaun presented the organization with a check for $7,000. $1,000 for every sack he had this season.  In addition, three local companies pledged to match his donation this year, bringing the total 2009 donation of “SP’s All-Star Sack Attack” program to $28,000.

It will be announced in the coming days that Shaun will be joining the board of After School All Stars.

“We are out there trying to raise awareness and raise money for After-School All-Stars. The program provides a safe place for kids to go after-school, and helps them with academics, enrichment and fitness,” said Phillips, founder of the Touchdown Shutdown.

Kerry Rhodes Hosting Fundraiser for CancerCare

NY Jets player Kerry Rhodes and Supermodel Hilary Rhoda will be hosting a benefit for CancerCare. The non-profit organization provides free, professional support services to anyone affected by cancer. Programs include counseling, education, financial assistance and practical help.

NFL Athletes Lend Hand to Orangewood Children’s Foundation

Last Saturday, several NFL athletes came together to help raise funds for the Orangewood Children’s Foundation. The event, held at the St. Regis Resort in Monarch Beach, consisted of a gala dinner and auction on Saturday night followed by a celebrity golf tournament on Sunday where foursome included an athlete or celebrity.

The Orangewood Children’s Foundation began 25 years ago with a vision to build a facility to shelter Orange County, California children who were the victims of abuse, neglect and abandonment.

The NFL players that came out to support Orangewood included Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers), Brandon Jacobs (New York Giants), Matt Cassel (Kansas City Chiefs), Mark Sanchez (New York Jets), Matt Schaub (Houston Texans), Reggie Wayne (Indianapolis Colts), Todd Heap (Baltimore Ravens) and Ray Lewis (Balitmore Raven).

“Growing up my whole life was pretty much like theirs,” said Super Bowl MVP and 11-time Pro Bowl linebacker Lewis. “I could have easily made the wrong turn. Now what’s important is having this football brotherhood come off the field to affect people’s lives positively.”

Athlete Sighting: Terrell Owens

Free Agent NFL player Terrell Owens was spotted having dinner in Cincinnati, Ohio with Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis at Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse on Tuesday night.

Fellow wide receiver Chad Ochocinco has been very vocal about adding TO to the team roster.

Could this mean that TO is one step closer to joining the Bengals for next season?

Athlete Sighting: Larry Fitzgerald and CC Sabathia

NFL Arizona Cardinals player Larry Fitzgerald and MLB Yankee pitcher CC Sabathia were spotted in Orlando watching the Magic host the Los Angeles Clippers.

The game was a blowout with the Magic winning 113 – 87.

Pete Carroll Returning to LA

But not to coach… the former USC Championship coach and current head coach of the Seattle Seahawks is returning to Los Angeles for the LA Marathon 5K.

Pete will be the keynote speaker at the Honda LA Marathon’s “Win Forever Inspiration Dinner” that will take place on Saturday, March 20 beginning at 4:45 p.m. just north of the Santa Monica Pier.

Keith Bulluck Awards Scholarships in Honor of Late Teammate

NFL player Keith Bulluck of the Tennessee Titans has awarded nine Middle Tennessee high school football players scholarships in honor of his late teammate, Steve McNair.

The $1,000 scholarships — which Bulluck named the Steve McNair Iron Will Scholarship — were awarded Monday night at the 44th annual National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame awards dinner, according to The Tennessean of Nashville. Bulluck chose nine recipients from a group of 54, honoring McNair’s jersey number.

“They all filled out applications and it really was a lot of work picking nine,” Bulluck said, according to the report. “I read through all of them, looked at their GPAs, looked at their extracurricular activities, looked at their coaches’ comments, saw how much they were involved in things and how many years they lettered on teams.”

Statement from Roethlisberger Attorney

Ben Roethlisberger’s attorney has issued a statement regarding the allegations against his client.

“The facts show that there was no criminal activity,” Garland said in a statement to the media. “No sexual assault occurred. We are cooperating with the investigation. Ben is completely innocent of any crime. The truth of the events should cause this investigation to end without a criminal charge.”

As was reported earlier, Milledgeville Police along with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation will be interviewing Roethlisberger again this week along with other key witnesses.

NFLers Team Up For TV Show Pros Vs. Joes

Former Philadelphia Eagles teammates Donovan McNabb and Terrell Owens are reuniting for Spike TV’s show Pros vs. Joes.

The show will feature NFL players teaming up on the basketball court against NBA players. Antonio Gates of the San Diego Chargers will join McNabb and TO. The three football players will take on Hakeem Olajuwon, Kenny Smith and Rick Fox.It should be noted that all three NFL athletes also player basketball while they were in college.

Pros vs. Joes is hosted by former NFL athlete and current FOX football analyst Michael Strahan and sports reporter Jay Glazer.

Taping starts this week and the fourth season premieres on April 27th at 11pm.

Roethlisberger Update: Milledgeville Press Conference

The Milledgeville Police Department just wrapped up their very brief press conference to announce that they will be conducting an additional interview Ben Roethlisberger this week. The police department will also be interviewing those who were in Roethlisberger’s entourage on the night of the alleged incident. They have contacted his attorney, Ed Garland.

The investigation continues, no formal charges have been filed yet.
