Politicians Make Wagers On World Series
October 26th, 2010 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Baseball,Food,Politics | 1 Comment
The World Series gets underway on Wednesday night with the San Francisco Giants taking on the Texas Rangers. So let the wagers begin!
Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Congressman Joe Barton (R-Texas) announced the details of a friendly wager over the upcoming World Series. Both are passionate for their hometown teams and are competing for bragging rights.
If the Rangers win, Nancy will supply Joe with some of San Francisco’s famous Ghirardelli Chocolates. If the Giants win, Joe will give Nancy a delicious deep-dish pecan pie from the historic Collin Street Bakery in Corsicana, Texas.
“I am looking forward to an exciting World Series with the young and talented Texas Rangers, but I am certain that the grit, determination, and team spirit of the Giants will once again lead them to victory and shock the world,” said Nancy. “While Texas is famous for its two-step, I am about to show Congressman Barton my own: first the Giants will be victorious; second, I will enjoy his pecan pie.”
But Joe was quick to reply with “The Texas Rangers famous motto is ‘One Riot, One Ranger’ and they are known for always getting their man. This baseball team shares a name and a mission with those law enforcement legends. They have already taken down the Rays and the Yankees. The Giants are next on the wanted poster. I thought the Rangers winning the World Series for the first time would be sweet enough, but when Speaker Pelosi put some Ghirardelli’s chocolate on the line – I knew victory would be even sweeter!”
But that’s not the only political wager on the series, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsome and the mayor of Arlington, Texas, Robert Cluck have also made a bet on the baseball finale.
Each mayor has agreed that the loser will provide a day of community service in the winner’s town while wearing a jersey of the winning team. But that’s not all, the losing mayor will provide the winning mayor with a bunch of delicious hometown goodies. If San Francisco loses, Gavin has agreed to send Robert Dungeness crab, sourdough bread, Ghirardelli chocolate and Anchor Steam beer.
If Texas loses, Robert will be shipping over BBQ food from a local joint called Spring Creek BBQ.
Who would you bet on to win the world series, the Giants or the Rangers?

Athlete Sighting: Shaquille O’Neal
October 13th, 2010 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Athlete Sighting,Basketball,Couples,Food | No Comments
Boston Celtics center Shaquille O’Neal was spotted having dinner at Davio’s Steakhouse in Philadelphia on Monday night. Shaq, who was with an unidentified female, was in town because his Celtics had a pre-season game scheduled against the Philadelphia 76ers last night.
While dining at Davio’s, Shaq ran into activist, Rev. Jesse Jackson. The pair chatted and exchanged info. We’re told Shaq had quite a meal, indulging in the cheesesteak spring rolls, pasta bolognese, a longbone steak and a side of gnocchi.
Hottie Xabi Alonso
October 12th, 2010 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Fashion,Food,Hotties,Soccer | 4 CommentsWow, check out the pictures of Real Madrid and Spanish National team hottie Xabi Alonso! The midfielder spoke with (and posed for!) El Pais and discussed his style and his passion for eating.
Following are some excerpts from the interview.
On his personal style:
“For that [clothes] I am very classical, I like the detail and care what I wear, I love watches and shoes, but I’m not a fashion victim. I am very clear on what I like and what I don’t, and in that way I rely on my gut feelings: I would never wear a fur coat.”
On food and his love for eating:
“I go crazy. I eat everything, and in that sense Madrid never stops: there is cooking with fresh ingredients, Japanese, Chinese, more high-end, less so, I don’t care, I just like to eat a lot. So much so that I’ve had to put limits on myself because I can’t stuff myself everyday, and Madrid has some wonderful things to offer.”
He is also classic when it comes to wine: “a good Ribera del Duero or a Mauro, and I’m happy” and admits that his weakness involves bubbles – “I love champagne.”
Unfortunately ladies, this stud is already taken. Xabi married his girlfriend and baby momma, Nagore Aramburu in July 2009.

But there’s a twist: they are competing against their favorite football players. Erin Andrews hosts the show, along with “Top Chef” finalist Brian Malarkey. Last night, San Diego Chargers’ Shaun Phillips and Stephen Cooper were the competing chefs, and it looks like they weren’t the winners. Erin Andrews tweeted a picture of herself with the two football players after the show and said, “Secretly, I loved @ShaunPhillips95 & Stephen Cooper’s dish on @TLC Kick Off Cook Off tonight.” You can watch a short preview clip of last night’s season premiere, above.
