Good News For Tiger Woods
August 26th, 2010 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Awards,Golf,Technology | No Comments
The last nine months of Tiger Woods life would not be described as great. His divorce from his Swedish wife was finalized earlier this week and he’s about to enter the worst drought of his career if he doesn’t win at the upcoming Barclays Golf Tournament.
But it’s not all bad news, Tiger’s website was honored by the SportBusiness Group in its annual Ultimate Sports Websites Awards.
The site won four of the seven categories — Multimedia Content, General Content, Monetisation, and Partnership Activation.
“This is a nice honor,” said Tiger. “A lot of people have worked very hard to improve our product, and the recognition is well-deserved. This year-round site was created for my fans, and I’m extremely grateful for their loyalty and support.”
New York Giants’ Keith Bullock To Be Honored At Gala
August 24th, 2010 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Awards,Charity,Football | No Comments
New York Giants’ linebacker Keith Bullock will be honored with the Nicholas Scoppetta Child Welfare Award at the NYFC 2010 Fall Gala for his work with youth in foster care. The NYFC Fall Gala benefiting youth in foster care in New York City will take place on September 21st at Cipriani 42.
Past honorees include Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, Mary J. Blige, Geoffrey Canada and Russell Simmons.
NYFC will recognize Keith, a native New Yorker, for his longtime commitment and philanthropic efforts helping young people in foster care. At the age of 12, Keith was placed in foster care when his mother could no longer care for him.
In 2003, he founded The Keith Bulluck Believe & Achieve Foundation to help youth in foster care in Tennessee and New York. Bulluck said, “Young people in foster care often assume they will be stuck with positions that don’t have much upside after they leave the foster care system. It doesn’t have to be that way. With a little focus, someone to bring you along and help you develop job skills, the possibilities are endless.”
Congratulations Keith!
Stanley Cup Visits Niagara Falls
August 14th, 2010 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Awards,Hockey | No CommentsPatrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks brought hockey’s most coveted trophy, the Stanley Cup to the New York side of Niagara Falls.
Patrick has been showing the Cup around his hometown of Buffalo, New York on Friday. The day started with the Stanley Cup making an appearance at his parents home at 7:30am where neighbors gathered to take pictures.
From there the group went to the Cave of Winds at Niagara Falls where Patrick, his family and some childhood friends walked to the hurricane deck with the Cup to brave the heavy winds and water pouring down from what is called the Bridal Veil. A new sign created by two Niagara Parks employees, introduced guests to the “HurriKane Deck.” The handcrafted sign featured a likeness of Patrick on one side and the Blackhawk logo on the other.

Little League Pitcher Gets Her Jersey Sent To Cooperstown
August 13th, 2010 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Awards,Baseball | No Comments
13-year-old Chelsea Baker, who we mentioned before is known as the best pitcher in Little League after having pitched two perfect games, will be sending her jersey to the Hall of Fame. The jersey will be on the second floor in the Diamond Dreams exhibit, which showcases contributions by women to the sport. From Florida, Chelsea Baker was taught how to pitch, specifically how to throw a killer “knuckleball” by the late MLB veteran Joe Niekro who passed away in 2006. Amidst a League that consists of all boys, Chelsea Baker has proven to any doubting individual that girls can throw better than boys if they have the natural talent and training.
Congrats To WNBA’s Tina Thompson
August 11th, 2010 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Awards,Basketball | No Comments
The Los Angeles Sparks player Tina Thompson surpassed Lisa Leslie’s WNBA career record Sunday, scoring 23 points in a 92-83 home loss to San Antonio. That gave Thompson 6,273 points, compared to 6,263 by Leslie, who retired after last season.
Thompson who has been called a “low-radar superstar” said that she is relieved that she broke the record so that she doesn’t have to answer questions about it anymore. And while it’s great to break records, her main goal remains championships.
“I think the most important things for me probably were the gold medals and the WNBA championships,” she said in a video interview posted on wnba.com. “All the other stuff, I guess they kind of come along the way. I prefer rings. If I could trade in all those points for another ring, I’d do it in a heartbeat.”
Congrats to Tina on the personal accomplishment!

Touching Moments At The ESPYs
July 15th, 2010 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Awards,Basketball,Football | 2 Comments
There were two points at the ESPYs last night that really showed the humanity and emotional side of sports.
The first came with the presentation of the Arthur Ashe Courage award that went to Aplington-Parkersburg (Iowa) High School coach Ed Thomas’ family for their courage to forgive. In June 2009, coach Ed Thomas was shot and killed in the high school football team’s weight room by Mark Becker, one of his former players. NFL quarterback Brett Favre presented the award to Thomas’ wife, Jan, and sons, Aaron and Todd.
The second emotional moment came when Denver Nuggets head coach George Karl was given the Jimmy V ESPY for Perseverance. Coach Karl missed games and practices last season after being diagnosed with neck and throat cancer. This is his second battle with cancer, his fourth type. He appeared on stage to accept the award appearing thinner and encouraging the government to support efforts to find a cure for cancer.
Congrats To The New Orleans Saints!

The New Orleans Saints team also earned the final award of the evening for best team honoring their Super Bowl win in February.
