Athlete QOTD: Tim Tebow Says He’s Not Dating Katy Perry
February 14th, 2012 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Athlete QOTD,Football | No CommentsWe told you awhile back about Katy Perry‘s mother trying to set the pop singer up with Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow. Perry has also said herself, via OK! magazine, how much she likes the “handsome, charming, intelligent” football player.
Tebow responded to questions about whether or not he was dating Perry, while participating in a Boys & Girls Club event in Los Angeles. Per the AP, Tebow said,
“No, me and Katy Perry don’t have a thing, but she’s a very good artist,” he said, smiling when asked by one of the kids at the event.
“I’m single.”
Of course, if Perry really wanted to run into Tebow she had a chance last weekend when the two were both in Los Angeles. Perry was in LA for the Grammys on Sunday.
Athlete QOTD: Giants RB Has Words For Gisele
February 8th, 2012 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Athlete QOTD,Couples,Football | No CommentsWe’ve all heard what Tom Brady‘s wife, model Gisele Bundchen, had to say after the Giants’ Super Bowl win. She was heard immediately after the game saying, “My husband cannot (expletive) throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time. I can’t believe they dropped the ball so many times.”
Of course, there has been a lot of backlash from her post-game commentary. The latest athlete to give his somewhat chauvinistic two cents was Giants running back Brandon Jacobs. Jacobs told the New York Post at a rally for the Super Bowl champs at MetLife Stadium,
“She just needs to continue to be cute and shut up.”
What do you think about Gisele’s comments? Was she just caught in the heat of the moment? Should Tom Brady and the rest of the Patriots be angry with her speaking out?

Athlete QOTD: Kobe Bryant Wants His Sixth Ring With Lakers
February 7th, 2012 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Athlete QOTD,Basketball | No CommentsKobe Bryant surpassed Shaquille O’Neal‘s position on the all-time scoring list on Monday night when the Lakers took on the 76ers in Bryant’s hometown.
Bryant is now behind only Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan, Karl Malone, and Kareem Abdul-Jabar. His new all-time score of 28,601 puts him in fifth place overall.
He spoke to Arash Markazi of ESPN LA after the milestone, eluding to the fact he plans on retiring as a Laker. He said,
“I’m not going jump ship to go chase a sixth ring. It’s going to happen here or it’s not going to happen.”
Bryant is in his 16th season in the NBA.

Athlete QOTD: Tiger Woods On Ex Coach’s New Book
January 20th, 2012 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Athlete QOTD,Books,Golf | No CommentsHank Haney, Tiger Woods‘ former swing coach, wrote a book that is set to be released just before the 2012 Masters Tournament. It will chronicle Haney’s 6 years with the former top golfer. While Haney was coaching Woods, he won 6 majors and 31 PGA tournaments. Of course, after his marital issues, Woods’ only win was this past December at the Chevron World Challenge. Woods is now being coached by Sean Foley.
In a phone interview with ESPN’s Bob Haring, Tiger Woods sounded off on the book, saying,
“I think it’s unprofessional and very disappointing, especially because it’s someone I worked with and trusted as a friend. There have been other one-sided books about me, and I think people understand that this book is about money. I’m not going to waste my time reading it.”
The Big Miss: My Years Coaching Tiger Woods hits bookshelves this March.
Athlete QOTD: Tony Romo
October 14th, 2011 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Athlete QOTD,Football | No CommentsDallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo hasn’t been having the best season so far. He’s been criticized plenty in the media, but he’s still trying to stay positive for his fans. He might want to choose his words a little better, though. Romo said,
“This team is going to win a Super Bowl at some point. It’s going to be exciting when that time comes. And when we look back, we’ll know who was on what side of the fence during those tough moments.”
That must have been really uplifting for Cowboys fans to hear. They’re going to win the Super Bowl at some point? The Cleveland Browns are probably going to win the Super Bowl at some point, too

Athlete QOTD: Charles Barkley
October 13th, 2011 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Athlete QOTD,Basketball | 1 CommentNBA legend and TNT analyst Charles Barkley is not a fan of social media. The big mound of rebound took to his website where he posted a “Rant and Rave” video about his dislike for the social media tools.
“Tweet is for losers. And what I mean by that, if you wake up in the morning and you’re worried about what I’m doing, you a damn idiot. You are a damn idiot. I don’t feel the need to put every thought that comes in my head out to the world. I don’t feel that. And I hope nobody wakes up in the morning and says let me follow Charles Barkley for the day.”
Charles also had these choice works for his opinion about Facebook:
“I’m not trying to keep up with people from my past. I’m running from them.”

Athlete QOTD: Tony Parker
October 5th, 2011 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Athlete QOTD,Basketball | 1 CommentSan Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker announced that he will be joining ASVEL basketball team in France. The French team, which Tony is vice-president of, is based in Villeurbanne, near Lyon in southeast region. Tony will be taking a HUGE pay cut, he will be earning $1,995 per month. He told L’Equipe:
“I’ll be playing for nearly for free … If I play the entire season, we’ll go for the title.”
While many people would argue that $1,995 hardly equals free… we understand the point Tony was trying to make. He is following in the steps of a long list of players evaluating their overseas playing opportunities as the NBA lockout progresses.

Athlete QOTD: Kobe Bryant
September 29th, 2011 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Athlete QOTD,Basketball | No Comments
There’s been a lot of rumors floating around about the possibility of Kobe Bryant going to Italy to play for Virtus Bologna.
Bryant has been on a European tour, most recently visiting the country he called home for much of his childhood: Italy. He spoke to Italian media outlet La Gazetta dello Sport about the chances of him moving to Italy to play basketball. He said,
“Will I be coming to play in Italy? It’s likely. It would be a dream for me. There’s a chance it might happen and we’re discussing it at the moment. It’s very possible, and that’s good news for me.”
Athlete QOTD: John Wall
September 19th, 2011 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Athlete QOTD,Basketball | No Comments
Washington Wizards guard John Wall told Michael Lee of The Washington Post the solution to fixing the NBA lockout rests in the hands of the league’s two biggest players.
“I think we’re going to have to have guys like Kobe, LeBron, the face of the NBA, to step up and say something,” said Wall, “Derek Fisher (president of the player’s association) and those guys are doing a great job, but I just want it to be over.”
What Wall may not realize is that Kobe Bryant is prepared to help others in the league should the lockout cause money problems for anyone, and LeBron James has not been absent from meetings. According to a Q&A Los Angeles Times reporter Lance Pugmire had with Billy Hunter, the executive director of the National Basketball Players Assn, Kobe and Lebron have,
“…Been deeply involved in the meetings we’ve had. I know Kobe is intimately involved in interfacing with colleagues and sharing in a pool of revenue to help the others get through this. Kobe has volunteered to do that in the event others need, he and others are prepared to loan money if necessary.”
Athlete QOTD: Tom Brady
September 16th, 2011 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Athlete QOTD,Football | No CommentsNew England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was speaking to reporters on Friday afternoon where he had this advice for the fans attending the first Patriots home game this weekend:
“Yeah, start drinking early. Get nice and rowdy. (It’s a) 4:15 (p.m.) game, they have a lot of time to get lubed up, come out here and cheer for their home team.”
According to some media sources, a team spokesman said he wanted to clarify what the captain was saying claiming that he meant to say: He wants fans to “stay hydrated, drink a lot of water, be loud, drink responsibly.”
Right. He was definitely talking about water because water always makes us rowdy! The NFL is a bit sensitive right now after several fights broke out among fans during the first weekend of football. A man was arrested last week after he used an illegal stun gun at the New York Jets vs. Dallas Cowboys game. The NFL is now requiring all fans to go through a security pat-down procedure before entering an arena.
