Happy Birthday Paul Pierce

October 13th, 2010 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Athlete Babies,Basketball,Couples | No Comments

Boston Celtics star player Paul Pierce is turning 33-years-old today. Paul was selected 10th overall by the Boston Celtics in the 1998 NBA Draft.

Fun Facts About Paul: He is a native of Oakland, California.

His nickname, The Truth, was given to him by Shaquille O’Neal who was playing for the Los Angeles Lakers at the time.  After a 2001 Lakers victory over the Celtics, Shaq  pulled a Boston reporter over and gestured toward his notepad. “Take this down. My name is Shaquille O’Neal and Paul Pierce is the [expletive] truth. Quote me on that and don’t take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn’t know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth.”

On April 4, 2008 he had a daughter, Prianna Lee, with longtime girlfriend Julie Landrum. The couple wed at the Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Coast, California in July 2010.

And just because we are huge Laker fans, we had to add one of our favorite Paul Pierce memories of all time…

October 12th, 2010 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Athlete Babies,Football | 7 Comments

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees took to his Twitter to ask for baby name suggestions, saying, “My wife is due any day now with baby boy #2. We have a few names picked out but haven’t decided yet. Looking for “b” names. Suggestions?” And then a minute later, “We are looking for boy names starting with a “b” that are uncommon. Not in most baby name books. Thanks to all for any ideas”

Any suggestions for Mr. Brees and his wife Brittany Brees, our loyal Queen of Sports readers? Their first son was named Baylen Brees. That’s a lot of B’s already.

Happy Birthday Bode Miller

October 12th, 2010 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Athlete Babies,Birthday,Books,Olympics | No Comments

Olympic snowboarder and bad boy Bode Miller turns 33 years old today!

Fun Facts About Bode: He has won five medals in the Winter Olympics, the most of any skier. He has taken home two silvers (giant slalom and combined) in Salt Lake City 2002, and a gold (super combined), a silver (Super G) and a bronze (downhill) in Vancouver 2010.

He is known for his reckless style, often risking crashes to increase his chances of winning a given race; in his book, Bode: Go Fast, Be Good, Have Fun, Bode stated that his goal as a skier was not to win medals, but rather to ski “as fast as the natural universe will allow.” In 2006, Bode also became famous for his reclusive (but outspoken) personality and his attention-getting statements.

Bode has a daughter, Neesyn Dacey, who was born in February 2008. She is known by her middle name, which Miller chose for her, “My daughter’s name is Neesyn Dacey but everyone calls her Dacey. Her mom chose Neesyn and I chose Dacey after she was born. The mother is a good friend of mine who I was seeing a while ago. We are no longer together.”

Happy Birthday Bode!

NFL Reviewing Brett Favre Voicemails And Pics

October 9th, 2010 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Athlete Babies,Couples,Football | 4 Comments

The NFL is currently reviewing a Deadspin.com report that claims Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre sent racy voicemails and text messages (warning: NSFW) to the New York Jets former sideline host, Jenn Sterger

When questioned about the website’s claims, Brett responded “I’m not getting into that. I’ve got my hands full with the Jets and am trying to get some timing down with our guys, so that’s all I’m going to discuss.”

Two female massage therapists hired by the New York Jets have come forward saying that Brett had made advances towards them as well.

The NFL discipline for violations of its personal conduct policy can range anywhere from a fine to a suspension. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has recently been punishing players who violate the leagues personal conduct policy (see Ben Roethlisberger) which covers all “conduct that undermines or puts at risk the integrity and reputation of the NFL, NFL clubs or NFL players.”

TerezOwens.com is reporting that Deadspin.com paid $75,000 for the voicemails and text messages, which they say is the most they’ve ever paid for a story.

Brett and his wife Deanna have been married for 14 years. The couple have two daughters, Brittany and Breleigh. Brittany gave birth to Brett’s grandson, Parker Brett, in April 2010.

Laila Ali Is Pregnant!

September 29th, 2010 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Athlete Babies,Boxing,Couples | No Comments

Laila Ali, daughter of boxing legend Muhammad Ali announced today that she is pregnant!

Laila, a world class boxer herself, has been a contestant on Dancing with the Stars and was a host for American Gladiators. The most prominent female boxer is due in April 2011.

“I am pregnant again! I’m three months, and I’m so excited, my family is excited,” said Laila. “I’m hoping it’s a girl this time!”

This will be Laila’s second child with husband former NFL player Curtis Conway. The couple was married in July 2007 and their first child, a son, CJ was born in 2008.

Laila says her father, boxing legend Muhammad Ali, is excited about becoming a grandfather again. “My dad is an excellent grandfather,” she says. “He loves kids. He loves to kiss them to death.”

Laila also has opened up about the differences she has noticed with her second pregnancy.

“I’ve noticed I’m putting on weight faster this time, I started showing sooner,” she says. “Staying fit is a challenge, even if you are a former athlete such as myself, because you just don’t have the energy that you used to have. Also, I have to hold myself back because I want to work harder than I’m able to.”

When it comes to nutrition, “Pregnancy isn’t ‘I can eat whatever I want,’ because you have to remember you’re going to be stuck with a lot of that weight afterwards that you need to try to get off. So I don’t recommend ‘grubbing,’” she says, admitting she succumbs to the occasional pregnancy craving.

“I have cravings all the time, even when I’m not pregnant,” Laila says. “I made a strawberry shortcake last night.”
