November 4th, 2011 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Basketball,TheatreA Broadway play based on the rivalry and friendship between Magic Johnson and Larry Bird is currently in the works. Producers Fran Kirmser and Tony Ponturo, who were behind last year’s Lombardi show on Broadway, are currently casting for the lead roles. According to playbill.com, a casting notice says “taller is good.”
Other characters being cast for the show include Red Auerbach, an NBA player for the Lakers, Larry’s mother Georgia Bird, and Magic’s agent. Magic/Bird will be produced in association with the NBA and will feature old NBA film footage.
The play is scheduled to open on Broadway on March 21, with a first preview on Feb. 27.
