Orel Hershiser And Shawn Green Coach Little League!
June 16th, 2011 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Baseball,CharityFormer Dodger players Orel Hershiser and Shawn Green (pictured above with SUBWAY spokesperson Jared Fogle) were hanging out at the baseball park in Los Angeles yesterday, but not the one you would expect! The duo partnered with SUBWAY restaurants DeSIGNS tour to promote the importance of eating healthy and staying active.
Orel and Shawn coached two local Los Angeles little league teams, Orel had the Encino Braves and Shawn the Beverly Hills Marlins. The two former Dodgers met with the kids beforehand and we heard Orel telling his team “We’re here to have fun.” Shawn took a survey among his little leaguers asking how many were Dodger fans, most of them raised their hands but one shouted out Yankees!
“I’m here to support SUBWAY’s DeSIGN tour, it brings two things together that I want to support, a healthy lifestyle and little league. Little league is where all major leaguers get started,” Shawn said. Both of the guys were extremely gracious, posing for pictures with the young ball players and signing autographs.
The four-inning exhibition game ended with Orel’s Encino team taking the win, 3 – 2.
This event marked the kick-off of the SUBWAY Baseball DeSIGNS Tour. The campaign will visit three other cities, Phoenix, New York and Williamsburg over the course of the net couple months. At the final stop for the Little League Baseball World Series from August 18 – 28, celebrity and athlete autographed baseballs will be auctioned off online to the general public. All proceeds from the auction will go towards the Little League Baseball Urban Initiative. Check them out below!!

*Big thanks to Ross Kleinberg for the invite!

Love seeing these guys doing good! Always thought Orel and Shawn were good guys. Did Orel mention anything about taking over the Dodgers?
I loved Orel as a little girl! Glad to see he’s helping out!
hmmm… subway claims to be promoting healthy living but they have large amounts of high fructose corn syrup in their bread, sounds suspicious
I doubt Orel knows that, ‘skeptic’
Yes Orel said that he is concerned about the current Dodger situation and said he threw his hat into the ring to stir up the conversation. Orel is part of what he labeled an “investigative group” that is interesting in pursuing a team ownership of some sort.
SUBWAY is a good fast food alternative to McDonald’s and Taco Bell! A sandwich is a better choice than chicken McNuggets and french fries. Also good to see SUBWAY supporting community initiatives and the importance of an active lifestyle!
PLEASE BUY THE DODGERS OREL!
For more info on Orel’s thoughts about the Dodger situation, check out this piece from ESPN LA’s Ramona Shelburne.
Thanks for the info! Orel would be a good choice to take over the Dodgers.
Btw – Jared is lookin’ good. SUBWAY sandwiches seems to be working for him!
The nice thing about subway is you decide what goes in the sandwich
