The Tillman Story
September 1st, 2010 | Posted by Queen of Sports in Football,Movies | 1 Comment
In 2002, in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks, Arizona Cardinals football player Pat Tillman decided to give up his pro career to join the Army Rangers. He became a symbol of patriotism with this selfless act, giving up millions of dollars and fame.
Tillman did several tours to Afghanistan during the time he served. He died in the mountains of Afghanistan on April 22, 2004. Initially, the U.S. government attempted a cover-up, reporting that Tillman died of enemy fire but an investigation by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command concluded that Tillman was killed by friendly fire when one allied group fired upon another in confusion after nearby gunfire was mistakenly believed to be from enemy combatants.
A group of film makers decided to tell Tillman’s story through a documentary which premiered on January 23rd, 2010 at the Sundance Film Festival. Check out the website for The Tillman Story to read more about the politics, controversy and family involved in this tragic story. The documentary film opened in select theaters in August. Westin Buys Logo Space on Shirts of Opponents of Federer and Williams
September 1st, 2010 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Endorsement Deals,Tennis | No CommentsIn a one-match sponsorship deal, Roberta Vinci and Brian Dabul will be wearing Westin logos on their shirts. The two opponents of Roger Federer and Venus Williams may be expected to lose, so why would the company chose them to sponsor? The huge amount of television exposure no matter who wins will make the sponsorship worth their money. The official hotel and resort partner of the US Open, Westin has been making a point to draw the attention of tennis fans. From giveaways of their trademark Heavenly Beds, to sending players to the suites of their most important clients, Westin is trying to go beyond throwing their logo on some shirts. It’s fitting, too, that Westin’s motto is “Westin serves you better.”

Elin Possibly Looking To Open Mental Health Clinic In Florida
September 1st, 2010 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Charity,Couples | No CommentsDespite all the emotional turmoil Elin Nordegren has been put through as of late, she has been working hard to obtain a degree in mental-health counseling so she can do something to help others. Elin’s divorce from Tiger Woods has left her with around $65 million, and reports are saying she plans on using some of that money to start up a mental health clinic for underprivileged families in Florida. Coming from a divorced family herself, Elin feels strongly about providing support for children from broken homes. A colleague of Elin’s said, “Elin has a lot of ideas, including setting up her own clinic to help poorer children suffering from mental illnesses such as depression, eating disorders and hypertension, which can result from living in a broken family. Maybe it’s not surprising, but she feels strongly that children are the real victims when marriages fail.” Good for you, Elin!
