Lil Wayne Predicts Nadal To Win US Open

August 30th, 2010 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Music,Tennis | No Comments

Who would have thought Lil Wayne would be a tennis fan? Well he is, and he wrote a letter from prison to Sports Illustrated making some predictions on the US Open, particularly regarding Rafael Nadal.  He said, “I’m a huge Nadal fan. I’m definitely rooting for him to get the Grand Slam and win the U.S. Open.” For the women, he is rooting for Kim Clijisters to win the title. Lil Wayne became a tennis fan after he tried playing and found it to be “unbelievably difficult.” He said also in the letter that Andre Agassi was “like a popstar” when he was a kid.

Lil Wayne is serving a year-long prison sentence for gun possession.

In his first public appearance in Boston, Shaquille O’Neal came out to support the UFC this past weekend, where he attended both the UFC Fan Expo and UFC 118. An MMA fan, Shaq can’t just sit by and watch anymore. He has made it known he wants a fight. He said that if he were younger, he’d choose to start out his MMA career with a fight against Tito Ortiz.  Instead, he’s invited  Ortiz to make an appearance on his TV show Shaq Vs. next season.

For now, Shaq wants to fight Korean Hong Man Choi. An inch taller than Shaq at 7’2″, Hong Man Choi has fought some worthy opponents such as Fedor Emelienko and Mirko “Cro Crop”.  He also fought retired baseball crazy Jose Canseco in a Super Hulk Tournament for the Japanese MMA promotion DREAM, and beat him in 1 minute and 15 seconds. Since Hong Man Choi is not in the UFC, the fight between he and Shaq would have to be picked up by another MMA promotion. We’re staying tuned, this is a fight we’d like to see.

Forbes Names Chicago Bears ‘NFL’s Most Neglected Brand’

August 30th, 2010 | Posted by Leah Hollar in Football | No Comments

The Chicago Bears are a widely recognizable franchise, and one of only two original NFL teams in existence. However, Forbes has just released some numbers about their worth that make them the lowest-ranked big market team. Founded by George Halas, the team has kept ownership within the family. Halas’ 87-year old daughter now controls the team, with her son serving as the face of the team. With the team as the one and only asset of the family, they are unable to pour money into the Bears in a way Jerry Jones has done with his most profitable Cowboys.

The team has the ability to be as profitable as the number one and number two most profitable teams, the Cowboys and Redskins. And the unlocked asset that is the Bears may soon become up for grabs when Halas’ daughter passes away. It is possible they  will not be able to keep it in the family with their shares being split up and shared with investors. If the team goes up for sale, it can begin to compete with other big market teams.

Check out this video of Milwaukee Bucks guard Brandon Jennings dancing shirtless to Lady Gaga. The idea of Brandon Jennings shirtless had us excited until we watched the video. Supposedly he had to do it because he lost a bet. We could have done without seeing this clip, though.

Brandon Jennings spent a year after high school playing basketball in Italy, and became the first player drafted by the NBA to skip college and play in Europe.
