Athlete Sighting: LeBron James

LeBron James was spotted at the Jay-Z concert at Madison Square Garden last night. LeBron’s Cleveland Cavaliers are scheduled to play the New Jersey Nets tonight.

Yao Ming and Wife are Expecting!

Yao Ming and fellow basketball player Ye Li are expecting a baby girl in July. The 7’6″ center for the Houston Rockets has been sidelined this season with a broken left foot and recently returned to the United States with his wife, sparking speculation that the baby will not be born in their native country, China.

Scientists are already predicting that the baby will grow to be 6’2″, the same height as it’s mother.

Tiger Has Some Work To Do

Back in June, Forbes announced that Tiger Woods topped their list of the world’s highest paid athletes stating that “nothing can stop the Tiger Woods money machine”. Well, I think we’ve found that having an affair (actually multiple affairs) can definitely slow that machine down.

After losing three major endorsement deals with Accenture, AT&T and most recently Gatorade, a new poll shows that while more than half of Americans polled thought his apology was sincere, his popularity has taken 49% nose dive. Of those polled in the ABC News/ESPN poll, only 39% have a favorable view of Tiger. Tiger’s height in popularity was 88% in 2000.

NBA Players Raise Money for St. Jude’s

Last year, NBA rookies raised $26,000 for St. Jude through an auction of autographed jerseys. This season, players are taking their support of St. Jude to another level.

Pau Gasol, Rudy Gay, Danny Granger, Shane Battier, Steve Blake and Kevin Love are leading the way by pledging to donate to St. Jude for each point scored throughout the NBA season. Gasol, Granger, Battier, Blake and Love will donate a minimum season-end gift of $20,000, while Gay has pledge $22,222.22. Nuggets head coach George Karl, recently diagnosed with throat and neck cancer, has also joined the cause and donated $20,000 to St. Jude.

The Hoops for St. Jude program is a season-long initiative, but March 1-7 is Hoops for St. Jude Week across the league. This week, NBA coaches will wear Hoops for St. Jude lapel pins in support of Karl. In addition, students across the country are participating in a special basketball fundamentals program designed by Karl.

Fans can go to hoopsforstjude.org to join Karl and the players by making a donation or participating in the auction of 30 different autographed items from the league’s best players.

Dancing with the Stars Cast Announced!!!!

Three sports affiliated people are going to be on the new season of Dancing with the Stars – NFL player Chad Ochocinco of the Cincinnatti Bengals, 2010 Olympic gold medalist Evan Lysacek and ESPN correspondent and peeping Tom victim, Erin Andrews!

They will join Pamela Anderson, soap opera star Aiden Turner, actress Shannen Doherty, reality TV ice queen Kate Gosselin, astronaut Buzz Aldrin, Reno 911! actress Niecy Nash, singer Nicole Scherzinger and the most recent Bachelor Jake Pavelka.

Candace Parker in Vogue

WNBA star Candace Parker sat down with Vogue magazine for a Q & A about her experience as a new mom. Candace gave birth to Lailaa Nicole Williams in May of 2009and is married to NBA player Shelden Williams of the Boston Celtics.

Here are some highlights from the interview:

What were the most noticeable changes to your body during your pregnancy?

Candace Parker: The biggest thing was looking down at the scale. I gained between 25 and 30 pounds during my pregnancy, which isn’t a lot, but, as an athlete, it was for me. After the baby, I got back to my normal weight in about two months. Nursing really helped, but now I have to worry about losing too much weight. Sometimes we practice twice a day.

What adjustments did you make to your schedule after becoming a mom?

The toughest thing is balancing everything, getting my rest while taking care of her, and finding time for myself. I don’t want to miss anything my daughter does.

Do you plan on playing basketball with your daughter? Do you think it’s a family gene?

I always wanted to be a young mom. It’s such a rewarding job seeing my daughter grow up. It really is the best thing that could ever have happened. I love being a mom.

I think that she’s going to be tall, obviously. If it were up to me I’d love for her to play tennis, but I’m going to let her make up her mind.
