Serena Williams Comes Out To Support Sister Venus

Serena Williams was in the crowd at the Sony Ericsson Open at the Crandon Park Tennis Center in Key Biscayne, Florida cheering on her sister Venus as she took on Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland.

Venus scored a 6-3, 6-1 victory.

Dwight Howard Will Be At Champs Sports Today!

Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard will be stopping by the new Official NBA Shop at Champs Sports at Florida Mall in Orlando at 7pm this evening.

Dwight will be working at the store for an hour, working at the cash register and helping fans pick out Adidas gear. He will be dressed in the signature uniform all Champs Sports employees wear and will meet with fans.

This event is open to the public.

Former NBA Player Entering Politics

Last week former NBA player Shawn Bradley filed papers in Utah to run for office. Bradley will run as a Republican against incumbent Democratic Rep. Tim Cosgrove for the 44th district seat.

“This is something that I have thought about for a long time. But I had to be in the state for three years to qualify. Because I have been out of the state playing basketball, I only recently qualified,” said Bradley. “I’ve always been interested in politics, and I would like to make a difference in people’s lives.”

New Subway Ad Features Athletes

The sandwich chain Subway has debuted a new commercial featuring several top athletes.

Some of the athletes featured in the ad include Olympians Nastia Liukin and Michael Phelps, Los Angeles Clipper Blake Griffin, female boxer Laila Ali and Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia.

NY Jets to be Featured on HBO’s Hard Knocks

The NY Jets football team will be featured on the upcoming season of the HBO documentary series Hard Knocks.

The five-episode series follows an NFL team during their training camp. The premiere episode is scheduled for August 11th.

“I have to tell you that in all of the years that we’ve done this, this is the right team at the right time with the right coach, the right transparency, philosophy … this is going to be a big hit,” said HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg, who acknowledged being a longtime Jets fan.

This is the seventh installment of the show. Previous teams featured on Hard Knocks include the Baltimore Ravens, Dallas Cowboys (twice), Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs and the Cincinnati Bengals.

Wladimir Klitschko and Hayden Panettiere Protest Dolphin Hunt in Japan

World champion boxer Wladimir Klitschko and his actress girlfriend Hayden Panettiere were protesting the annual dolphin hunt in Taiji, a fishing village in southwestern Japan over the weekend.

Kick Like A Girl

Writer, director and producer Jenny Mackenzie has made a new short soccer film called Kick Like A Girl. The cameras follow an undefeated third grade girls soccer team, The Mighty Cheetahs, as they compete in a league with all boys teams.

The film is narrated by 8-year old Lizzie (Jenny’s daughter) who battles juvenile diabetes and is a self-proclaimed “soccer girl.”

Kick Like A Girl explores the lessons learned through team sports and provides a commentary about social change since the passing of Title IX in 1972.
